Tune: Binchester
('Happy are they, they that love God')
1 John 4 v.7-11
***********
Beloved sister, beloved brother
Let us love each other
For love is of God and every
One that does love, so be
Is born of God, and does God know
For that their lives do show
And they that love not do not know
God, for He is love so
In this was seen love of God true
To us, even to you
Because He sent His only Son
That we might live, each one
Herein is love, not that we loved
God first, but He encoved {1}
Us, and sent His Son for to be
Sin's propitiation, see {2}
The ransom once for our sins paid
In His life all down laid
Beloved, if God so loved us here
We ought His love to share
--------
{1} encoved - from 'covenant'
{2} propitiation - dealing with sins mercifully, graciously

Your poem revolves around the theme of love as a divine attribute and a fundamental aspect of the Christian faith. It emphasizes that love is derived from God, who exemplifies love through the sacrifice of His Son for humanity's sins. The poem calls for mutual love among individuals, illustrating that true knowledge of God is demonstrated through love for one another.
