My People And Mercy

Tune: Wiltshire

('Through all the changing scenes of life')

Hosea 1 v.6-9; 2 v.1; 2 v.23

***********

Hosea married Gomer, she

Mother of children be

Bare daughter, name Lo-ruhamah

God merciful no more

And son she bare, name Lo-ammi

God said, You are not, see

My people for they spiritual

Adulterers be all

But God's promise would come to be

He would again choose, see

His people to be the children

Of the living God then

Lo-ammi, he now called Ammi

And Lo-ruhamah, she

Would be called Ruhamah, God, He

Would again have mercy

So Israel restored, His people

May obtain mercy all

Again, God's plans and purposes

Unto them, true is this

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.6.8.6. Explanations of names in bold type. The 'Lo' prefix seems to mean 'not' or 'no' here. Yet they did have a first child, a son named Jezreel, meaning 'God sows'.

Now this one threw me off Orchi. It is a difficult task to draft a poem or hymn with genealogical names, especially biblical ones. This took me down a trail that is seldom traveled and with no way out. Loved the bold type if read just that it still gives the essence of the poem. Well done my friend.

Wonderful hymn-poem, Orchi! As for mercy, with all the glugging going on…we all need it! Ah-gah-gah-gah-glug-glug! ⚓️

Thank you T. That glugging one don't show us any mercy. Lo-ruhamah (no mercy) was female, but that don't stop him glugging! lol.
