Killing Time
I think it only fair
to suggest,
time needs us
and dearly
just to prove that
it exists ..
But there is not
enough
of it left to enjoy
and the dark
days that still lie
ahead of us
bare the longest
of shadows
and the deepest
of grudges ..
Yet still I have
no doubt
whatsoever that
without us,
time as we both
know it,
would cease
to exist altogether ..

Well, home, Neville, and Happy New Year. Well worded. Your poem revolves around the relationship between humans and the concept of time. The poem suggests that time is dependent on human perception and existence for its significance, and it conveys a sense of urgency and inevitability regarding the passage of time, especially in the face of darkness and challenges.
Thank you most kindly ma'am .. & straight back at you with those New Year wishes .. I am always delighted when I read your excellent review interpretations because you invariably hit the bullseye and my happy spot .. Neville
You're so welcome, my dear friend
Good write N. Cooeeee! lol.
Thanks saint Stephen .. π§βππ
Glad to see you back my friend and a Happy New Year to you. This poem is philosophical indeed it is the old if a tree falls in the woods and there is no one there to hear it does it make noise. I love it I guess we can write off that few billion years before the earth cooled down enough to support life. Deep thought there Neville especially about the darkness that the future holds in store. I love the lines that state:
"days that still lie
ahead of us
bare the longest
of shadows"
Very nicely said.
Thanks kindly my friend .. Neville
Always my pleasure
Absolutely correct. Time is man-made and would not exist without humanity. However, Nature would still slog along, as it always has, which is why Man invented it and ways to keep track. From Sundials, clocks, watches, and calendars, to keep track of the shifting forms of Nature, Sunrise, Sunset, light, darkness., when to plant, when to reap, etc. Now, as we age, those reminders add to the expectancy (longest of shadows) of what awaits. You've described this dilemma from man's point of view, "without us, time.... would cease to exist." A great expression of our place within Nature and our relationship with passing time. Loved it. P.S. May your year be filled with happiness for you and all\.
I simply couldn't ask for more .. Many huge THANKS my friend .. Neville
Happy New Year Neville! This poem reminds me that our perception is what gives the universe its narrative. Hereβs to another well-lived year whatever may come our wayποΈππ»
Bless you brother & back at you .. ππ
My friend, I feel this tension between scarcity and meaningβ¦the sense that what remains is shadowed, yet still bound up with presence. The idea that our being gives time its shape resonates deeply. Well done! πΉπ€ππ―οΈ

I personally feel that man is dependent on time, and not vice versa, but the relationship definitely exists....
