How Many.... Before?
How many times must I say, “I love you.”
before you accept it as true?”
How much love must I reveal
before you know that it’s real?
How many games must we play
before we both pull away?
How many smiles can you paint on
before I sense that you’re gone?
How many whispers must I hear
before I believe my own ears?
How many cold kisses must we share
before I realize that you don’t care?
How many lies will you tell me
before you say we can not be?
How many times…Don’t ask, I know it.
How many times must my heart be broken
before I become a poet?

Numbers seem to matter when it is not the quantity but quality of the response that one must listen to. I love the last line that makes it clear that poets come from suffering and continual hope. Lovely
