Rashomon

sorenbarrett

That's ok, I'm not mad at you do what you got to do
Voice of an immigration czar, GET OUT'A THE CAR!
Roar of the engine, intervention
The agent sprang, bang, bang, bang
Fuck'n bitch
An unmanned car rolls to the ditch
Is the law above the law or under the law, I know what I saw
Blood of bias stains our eyes, a crippled mind makes up alibies
Self defense or execution, standing on the fence no good solution
Judge not, it is said, you can't get inside another's head
But what of justice you say, didn't you hear, it died yesterday

  • Comment from author about the poem: Rashomon a movie by Akira Kurosawa that shows a murder from four different points of view all different and it is left up to the viewer to decide which is right. This effect affects eye witness testimonies based not on lies or different angles but individual preexisting biases. We see what we want to see.

I love the film Rashomon by Akira Kurosawa along with significant other works by him. Your poem is a very clever write...requiring thinking outside of poetry's conventional box...definitely deserves to be a fave...great stuff!

    • sorenbarrett

Thank you so much for the read Dominic your words of encouragement are deeply valued

    • Mutley Ravishes

I remember a line from one of my favorite writers along the lines of "it`s not seeing is believing, but believing is seeing."

      • sorenbarrett

Thank you so much for the read and comment yes so true our eyes see but the brain tells us what we saw.

      • Teddy.15

Extraordinarily powerful as only you can show this type of human nature, and you are perfectly right, we see what we choose two because our eyes and minds our ours to adjust. sorrenbarret this has pulled at my heartstrings today as our world beyond the movies is very broken. Kudos. Ps I had to Google your title, kudos for that too 🤣

Good write SB. I can't SEE why KP complains, cos I SEE a pile of sewage and says 'That'll make a nice dinner - or ten - for her'. When she SEES it she says ' Oh no, not sewage again', and I reply 'But you've only had it 20 times this week, dear!' lol. It's a 'orrible marriage!

            • sorenbarrett

Thanks Orchi beauty is in the eye of the beholder and too bad she sees no beauty in sewage and not too much in her Botox

            • Friendship

During the weekend, I had an interesting conversation with someone regarding an incident that occurred in Minnesota involving the shooting of an agent, and the conversation transitioned into a description of a movie that aligns with the theme 'Misleading to the Naked Eye', which is also my understanding of the film. The film Rashomon, directed by Akira Kurosawa, presents a murder from four distinct perspectives, each disparate, leaving the viewer to discern the truth. This phenomenon impacts eyewitness accounts, which are influenced not by deception or varied vantage points but by individual preconceptions, illustrating that perception is subjective.

Thank you for your read and comment my friend and yes that is the essence of the poem's meaning

                • Friendship

                  You're very welcome, my friend.

                • Tristan Robert Lange

Soren, this hits like a siren. The immediacy, the noise, the moral whiplash…it’s unsettling in the way it should be. There’s no safe distance here, and that’s the point. Another fantabulous poem, my friend! 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

                  • sorenbarrett

Thank you so much Tristan. Your continued support is most important to me and deeply appreciated my friend. It is amazing to me that eye witness testimony is still allowed in court and it raises strong questions about a trial by jury or even judge that hold their own biases. The solution remains unknown

                    • Tristan Robert Lange

For sure. Agreed. The solution unknown, but the issue well-articulated. Thank YOU for being so welcoming of me and the feeling is mutual, my friend!

                      • sorenbarrett

You are the best my friend

                        • sorenbarrett

Thanks so much Lorenz. Indeed eyes and mind of man unsound so where do we put foot on firm ground?

They can dress it up as much as they want, but murder is murder.
Any fool can pull a gun, and it seems now they have carte blanche to shoot on sight.

                            • sorenbarrett

Paul thank you for your read and input it is a divisive matter indeed where will it lead. Those whose beliefs lie to the right see this as a self defense fight, those that lean to the left claim injustice and feel bereft. It splits us into two camps, divide and conquer caught in power's clamps

Yes, protect the citizens seems to have been forgotten.

This is a very powerful poem about perspective. I myself haven’t seen the movie but that is now on my must watch list. You conveyed the anger perfectly while also acknowledging that people can stain your perspective. That’s something I think we all ought to know, we often fall under people’s views and opinions which influences our own attitude about the situation. Amazing poetry Soren.

Thank you so much inspired by the recent ICE shooting of a young woman in her car that was a US citizen that has now divided the nation between self defense and summary execution shot three times in the head

Very deep, emotional and dynamic... A wonderful write filled with sense and almost photographic accuracy of conveying meanings...

Justice seems to be coming most irregular nowadays soren.
