Worthy Worship

Tune: Regent Square

('Light's abode, celestial Salem')

Revelation 7 v.9-15

************

John beheld a great multitude

None could number them, he viewed

Many of all nations and tribes

Resplendent scene he describes

All peoples of all tongues stood there

Before the throne bright and fair

The throne of God and of the Lamb

Clothed in white robes to a man {1}

And with palm branches in their hands

Worship bring from all their lands

Saying with loud voice, Salvation

Blessings to God the great One

He who sits upon the throne, too

The Lamb also whom they view

And all the angels stood around

They there with elders, beasts {2}, {3}

Fell before throne on their faces

Worshipped God for His graces

Saying, Amen, Blessing, glory

Wisdom, thanksgiving e'er be

And honour and power and might

Here in eternal realm's light

To our God for ever, ever

Amen, His reign fades never

They gathered there from each nation

Came forth from tribulation

Washed their robes and have made them white {4}

In blood of the Lamb, pure sight

For they forgiven, redeemed, free

Serve God now eternally

-------

{1} 'to a man', i.e. every one.

{2} there are 24 elders round the throne.

{3} there are 4 living creatures or 'beasts' around the throne.

{4} a symbolic picture, as blood usually stains.
