Tune: Ellers
('Saviour, again to thy dear name we raise')
Luke 2 v.25-32
*********
At Jerusalem one named Simeon
He just and devout, he an aged one
Waiting for Israel's consolation
The Holy Spirit was on him, a son
And it was revealed by the same Spirit
That he should not see death before way lit
By the Lord's Christ, before his departure
From this world, word of the Lord did assure
He came by the Spirit into temple
Mary, Joseph, Jesus, they there came all
To present Him, first-born son dedicate
To the Lord at age forty days, not late
Simeon took up Jesus in his arms
Heart's desire met, brought comforting and balms
For he said, Lord, now let me your servant
Depart in peace, your word is to me sent
For my eyes have seen you salvation which
You have prepared before all peoples, rich
In graces, your Son a light to lighten
Gentiles, and the glory of Israel then

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 10.10.10.10. for Candlemas (Feb 2). Some lines in the hymn seem to have been altered from the original, but it is not spoiled, as in updating of some hymns.
