Innocence

sorenbarrett

Was there ever any good or just the rose colored glasses of childhood
The fiery romance of a fairytale, quenched by cold waters when first love did fail
Wishes cast on a shining star now seem lost in time's distance so far
The thrill of Santa night before, evaporated dreams in a grown up's closet to store
The charm of magic taken from one's eyes, now seen as nothing but a hoodwinker's  lies
A child's kneeling belief in God, striped away with innocence's green sod
So with aged eyes defiled, let me again be beguiled seeing with the eyes of a child

How to live that magic again, within all the pressures, disillusionments, and responsibilities of being an adult? Great question. And prayer, Soren.

Innocence always wears a mask of guilt.

        • sorenbarrett

That is a reflection from the mirror of the mind where most think that guilt wears the mask of innocence. Thanks so much Lorenz for the review and comment now you have me thinking, time for coffee

Yes, you've got to get back to childhood where responsibility is left to others.
Now get out there and bag that impossible present all the kids want.
Just realised that present is, just transfer money into my account, bloody weans.

                  • sorenbarrett

Thanks Paul for the read and comment yes indeed it is just transfer money the problem being more is going out than in leaving me in the red. Now I know why Christmas colors are red.

The very eyes of a child, if we are lucky enough to know our innocence as a child many do not. A. Gorgeous poem of reflection. 🌹

Soren, there’s reflection here without bitterness. From Santa nights to first love to belief itself…you trace the arc of innocence with clarity. That final plea to be beguiled again feels vulnerable and brave. It reminds us that wonder is not foolish…it’s human. Powerful work, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

Love it. Everything was Magical through a Childhood's eyes . And then the Cold Wet Blanket of reality.

Thanks so much Kevin yes it is true an adult view has lost its magic and one has to ask if ignorance is not bliss. I do appreciate very much your reads and comments.

This is amazing. There is so much here to appreciate. Was there any good.We will never know.I like to think that there was. This is a two sided poem. There are many opposites fiery romance and love that failed,Wishes made and lost.I beleive this poem raises the ultimate questions of contrariness. An enjoyable read .Made me think

                                      yes!

i still actively practise seeing the world in this way. never entirely grew out of the mindset i had growing up and i don't intend to either. the clarity and responsibility of adulthood often drowns it out, but i do my best to ensure i don't completely put it down. thank you for sharing, i really enjoyed and could relate to this one.
