Wonderland becomes Neverland

sorenbarrett

Government a whore, what's more she sells herself to the highest bidder
Where passion is on ration and freedom is no longer in fashion, just consider
The John pays his ballot box price at the door to judicial pimps, thugs of vice
An elected congress of blood sucking lice roll the dice, feeding off voter mice

The mice are blind, they've all lost their mind and the Pied Piper leads
A world of fairytales where blind mice lost their tails, not noting how much each bleeds
Tit for tat they think they have belled the cat, but amongst the mice a fat rat
The clock struck one as up the clock he did run, then came Bo Peep with a bat

The creep entrusted to watch the sheep is under a haystack fast asleep
The queen of hearts gave a trump some tarts and ice in a glass does weep
The mad hatter with presidential chatter claims all of wonderland
A glass slipper shattered, the mice all scattered with a blunder of the Don's hand

so true and beautifully put, a fave

  • orchidee

Good write SB. I'm not into politics much, so can't comment much.

    • sorenbarrett

Thank you Orchi and that is very wise indeed for I have not found a party worth following or a form of government that works. Your words are appreciated

      • orchidee

How about that Cabbage Party I wrote about a while ago? Should we give them a chance in power?Cabbages Rule OK? And lettuces, cucumbers, tomatoes, etc could join too! There's no humans in it. lol.

        • sorenbarrett

They could do no worse but human beans should be excluded

          • orchidee

            Lol.

Wow Trump has certainly gotten on your nerves.Your not alone everyone is just holding their breathe waiting for his next stupid statement or action. This poem uses nursery rhymes as metaphors for Trumps stupidity. It is appropriate becasue he behaves like a petulant child with his hand on the big red button.A powerful poem.Masterfully constructed.Let's hope Trump disappears

            • sorenbarrett

Thank you David for the read and comment yes to me Trump is just the eruption of a far greater festering and corruption underneath where I have become jaded enough to see all politics as a cancer but like cancer itself I have no cure to offer.

Five faves from me. What a poem! Great write 🙏

Greatness lies in making a statement which seems specific yet it is generic enough to be applicable to smilar circumstances. This poem absolutely does this - geographical divide conquerred.

              • sorenbarrett

And so you have done in your comment Rebellion. Thank you so much for the read and words of support they are most valued. Yes it is more than one and we are all complicit.

              • Friendship

well written. Your poem revolves around the disenchantment with government and authority, characterized as corrupt and self-serving, alongside a commentary on societal apathy and the consequences of blind trust in leadership.

                • sorenbarrett

Thank you Friendship well said. I appreciate your read and comment as well as interpretation

                • Lorenz

Is it better to have a loud Donald duck than a demonic Goebbels ? I wonder ...

                  • sorenbarrett

Depends if you are Huey, Dewey and Louie. Thanks so much Lorenz for the read and comment

                  • Kevin Hulme

I repeat what Mark Twain said : 'Diapers and Politicians must be changed regularly , And for the same reason'. Well Said.

                    • sorenbarrett

Thank you Kevin it is most appreciated and although this is true it doesn't eliminate the problem

                    • Neville

Ah' I see what you mean .. full of universal truths I'm sure .. some things just have to be said, don't they .. Neville 😎👍

                      • sorenbarrett

Thanks Neville for the read and review it is always appreciated. I find myself caught in the middle against both sides

Soren… this is satire turned carnival mirror. The Pied Piper, Bo Peep, the Queen of Hearts… all colliding under that opening indictment. And when you close with “A glass slipper shattered, the mice all scattered with a blunder of the Don’s hand,” the chaos feels even more brilliant. Fierce work, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

                        • sorenbarrett

I can sense your frustration in this poem Soren. I do have to agree it seems our government is crumbling due to certain circumstances. I don’t follow politics too much but I know enough to feel there should be a change. Hopefully it comes soon.

                          • sorenbarrett

Thank you so much for the read and comment Allie it is not so much that I am frustrated with one side of the other it is the whole system that frustrates me.

                            • Allie561

You’re very welcome Soren. Far too many broken systems in our world, society can’t seem to function when there’s differences. It might be too much to ask for but maybe one day people will just be able to live with each other.

                            • Doggerel Dave

'Like the fairy tales you report, Soren. The writers are mega rich accumulators of wealth who can make those tales and the characters within move in whichever way they require..

                              • sorenbarrett

Thanks Dave appreciate the read and comment. Yes indeed the writers got money and power but it is the publishers and editors behind the scenes that have the big bucks and the ability to cancel the book.

                                • Doggerel Dave

Let's not over complicate this with detail, Soren. Forget analogies involving writers, publishers and editors. I'll go into your territory now, as you will be craving a metaphor, then one of puppet masters and puppets is simpler and more direct.

                                • Goldfinch60

Wonderful story tales relating to the untrustworthiness of modern governments.

Thanks so much Andy yes I would say governments of any age some hide it better than others

sharp stifling satire.. biting political allegory. there is no chance to breathe here..lots happening

                                    • sorenbarrett

Thank you Aman for your read and interpretation and understanding of this piece. It is most appreciated

                                    • Paul Bell

As the 4-year-old said. Is he in charge of any nuclear buttons, cos he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer?
Mind you, ours ain't any better, we're still extracting him out of Trumps ass.
Despots are running the asylum now, things won't be getting any better soon.

                                      • sorenbarrett

Thanks Paul for your read and comment my friend yes the names have changed to protect the guilty but the show remains the same and has been running on Broadway since before the dawn of time.
