Tune: Quam Dilecta

('We love the place, O God')

Psalm 127

**********

Except the Lord does build

The house, no profits yield

For without him, they who

Labour in vain so do

It is vain for you to

Rise up early anew

And to sit up late, you

Bread of sorrows eat, do

For He His beloved gives

Sleep, each unto him lives

Children an heritage

Of the Lord, whate'er age

The fruit of the womb be

His reward to them, see

As arrows in the hand

Of mighty in the land

So are children, happy

If parents quivers be

Full of arrows, offspring

Prosperity shall bring

This hymn shows its age Orchi in the last lines where it states that offspring prosperity bring. Now days with the cost of children from hospital to the grave they are a liability not prosperity. I guess that is one way of keeping the population down. A good write Orchi loved the hymn
