Vl. The Circumference of Nullity

Jon Nakapalau

This was a choice -
To embark on ship of bones,
A port promised by angel forgotten,
Flaming sword on far shore, held high.
A  jasmine moon seen through veil of tears,
Each shadow webbed, each dream caught.

To this sign did embers of forgiveness whirl,
Upon a hot wind that blew on parched lips
That used to pray...now numb with fear.

BLOOD OF LAMB UPON MY DOOR
          NO SOLICITATIONS PLEASE!

Please tell Lady Macbeth to wash her hands,

But not in lukewarm water.
No blood on cucumber sandwiches, please.

Cake served by Marie Antoinette,
Her headless body yearning for a razor thin slice.

          THIS TOO SHALL PASS...

But I will not be here when it does,
I will be far away,
Upon dark shore, where dead gods dream
Of dead men who once brought them flowers,

As dead gifts.
