Biblical metaphor

sorenbarrett

Nurtured in the garden's womb protected from all strife
A beating heart of god that breathed into you life
Born from a family tree, forbidden truth
Expelled naked into a cold world to spend your youth
Under the threat of coming death, hidden in a nest of reeds
Nurtured by mother nature, who to a princess concedes
Arc, basket or coffin all arise from a river of Styx as a rover
A maternal handmaiden even after wed she watches over
Nature's commandments written finger striations of stone
Held captive through childhood crossing parted seas, now grown
Cain's face is Able Osiris turned Sete good becomes beast
Sun hung on a cross of directions raises in the east

Stunning how there are thought processes in similar topics such as this in different times, cultures, languages, philosophies, etc. 🕊️🙏🏻

I am often not sure how to comment on your poems. They are masterful and intricate but I'm not always able to derive meaning. I guess I'm saying they are over my head. I always enjoy trying to decipher. Katie

I apologize Katie you are not alone. I love metaphor and allegory and they are often obscure, sometimes deliberately and sometime by accident. Furthermore to understand this one requires familiarity with the Bible story of creation from Genesis and the story of Moses and Christ as well as the parallels from Egyptian Mythology in the story of Osiris so I was sure that many would not get it. I write for myself much of the time and am sorry to burden the reader with poems that are cryptic. Thank you so much for the read and comment it is most helpful and valued my friend

The message of the old testament is itself linked to earlier Sumerian texts that were adapted to suit the purpose .
Reinterprated legends that were used to promote monotheism .

              • sorenbarrett

Would have been too long to incorporate the flood with Gilgamesh, the Mayan and Aztec sacrifices and Abraham, the tower of Babel and ziggurats or many other similarities. Thanks Lorenz for the read and comment

Do you think Quetzalcoatl inspired the tablets of the law ?

                  • sorenbarrett

                    No I think Hammurabi did

My friend, this is a tapestry…Eden, Moses, Cain and Abel, Osiris…all woven into a single thread of origin, exile, and transformation. It doesn’t try to separate them…it lets them echo into each other. And that closing turn toward the rising sun gives it a sense of continuation…not ending, but cycle. Powerful piece. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

                    • sorenbarrett

Thank you so much my friend for the review and understanding. All religions have common elements being metaphors and allegories with morals and meaning that people have taken as literal. Like all myths some may have historical basis that is exaggerated over time.

I think this is very clever indeed .. I was forced to attend Sunday School as a kid .. I think that helped me make my mind up to follow a distinctly different path .. still bloomin clever tho' ya poem mate, not me .. Neville

Clever you are or you wouldn't write the poems you do and maybe not be alive. Thank god for that whoever that is. Thanks for the read my friend and the kind words they are deeply appreciated as are you.
