Tune: Winchester New
('Ride on, ride on in majesty')
Luke 22 v.31-34
********
The Lord said to Simon [Peter], Behold
Satan has desired, it be told
To have you, that as wheat he may
Sift you, but for you I do pray
I have prayed that your faith not fail
But against enemies prevail
And when you have again to me
Turned, strengthen your brethren, so be
Peter said to Him, Lord, I be
Ready to go with you freely
Both into prison, and to death
I will stay till my final breath
The Lord said, I tell you, Peter
The cockerel shall not crow, 'tis sure
Not crow this day until you shall
Deny me thrice, this here know well

A tough message to swallow. A great hymn with good rhyme my friend
Thank you SB. You got a cockerel?!
Most welcome Orchi no never kept birds
Well said. Your poem centers on a biblical narrative in which Jesus foretells Peter's denial during the events leading up to the crucifixion. The central idea revolves around the themes of faith, temptation, and the struggle against doubt. It explores the dynamic between Jesus and Peter, highlighting the tension between Peter's confidence and Jesus's forewarning of his impending denial.
Thank you F.
Gotta be an inside story here - woz the evidence rigged? A fit up?
Thank you D. I dunno. I'm too busy sifting wheat, as Sir Orchi NS!
Wheat? famine on the way? Where\\\'s yer biblical reference? I wanna test the facts for myself before I go hungry.
Oh Simon! Good write here, O🙏🏻🕊️
Thank you A.
Good one Orchi.
Thank you Gold.
Orchi, there’s a real steadiness to this…you carry the weight of the passage without losing its humanity, especially in Peter’s moment.
And haha…somewhere in all this, Popeye isn’t being sifted…he’s shifting under a five-ton can of spinach glug juice, trying to hold it together. Well done, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦⬛
Thank you T. We knew those sifters would be around - Popeye & Co! lol.
Nice one. And so appropriate.
Thank you K.
