Tune: Crucifer
('Lift high the cross')
Luke 22 v.39-46
**********
Chorus
Rise and pray, lest you fall in temptation
Sleep not, but pray, and so God's will be done
Jesus went out to the mount Olivet
His disciples went with Him, followed yet - Chorus
When at the garden of Gethsemane
He said, Pray and keep watch a while with me - Chorus
So you shall not enter in temptation
Then He went a short way from them, God's Son - Chorus
He kneeled and prayed, saying, Father, if you
Will remove this cup of suffering, do - Chorus
Nevertheless not my will but yours be
Done, then an angel strengthened Him wholly - Chorus
In agony He prayed more earnestly
Seated great drops of blood to the ground He - Chorus
When rising from prayer He disciples found
Weary and sad they were sleeping all sound - Chorus

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem with verses and chorus in 10.10. format. Note: In some Gospels it says that Jesus prayed the same words of this prayer three times in a row in the garden of Gethsemane. He says to pray so that we do not fall into temptations. To pray 'Lead us not into temptation' can be a prayer in itself too.

I feel my religious education has been enhanced as of just now .. Ta .. Neville
Thank you N.
You can never rely on even close friends. A wonderful hymn Orchi it carries spiritual and non spiritual messages. Nicely done
Thank you SB. Somehow they needed to rise above their natural sleepiness. And being sad made them weary and tired, I suspect. Yet we all doze off at times!
Usually the worst times like when driving. You are most welcome Orchi
Good oen Orchi.
Thank you Gold.
Straightforward account there, orchi - Even I could follow it (the account) tough times.
Thank you D.
Orchi, this carries real reverence…you let the moment breathe without forcing it. It walks like a true hymn…steady, grounded, and honest to the weight of it. And then I can’t help but see it…Jesus pouring Himself out while Popeye’s over there trying to keep one eye open while glugging in his sleep (gleeping?)…muttering something about staying strong…Obi Wan gripping his cloak like he’s ready for action…until he’s not…gone…off with the lightsaber instincts again…while Ol Tomás…well…he’s already halfway down the stream wondering where his robe went. That's what happens when you run away naked. 🤷♂️🤣 Beautifully done. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦⬛
Thank you T.
Meanwhile - Doh! We knew Popeye wouldn't be sleeping! Heehee.
Indeed, we did. How is that? Why take it up with the DJs at WCAT!
We're forever consulting the WCAT Department for answers. lol.
Absolutely...and we keep getting none? Why could that be? WCAT!
