So sad, what the young lad said to me;
“I have never read a book.”
How could I explain to him the pleasure,
That can be found in reading,
Stories that can thrill; can make you laugh;
Can make you cry.
Books to me have always been there,
The total range of emotions can be felt;
Love, anger, hate, sadness, happiness.
Not to know these feelings that are given
By the skill and imagination of authors,
Is alien to me.
Listening and looking can produce emotion,
But reading allows you to use, your own imagination,
To create those characters, brought to life on the page.
To imagine the look of the villains and heroes is something
So personal, that if recreated on screen,
Mostly lets you down.

- Comment from author about the poem: I wrote this for a young lad who told me he had never read a book. The video shows that jazz is still around with the young people

Good write Gold.
Thank you Orchi.
A wonderful write Andy of the wonders of reading. A book has a whole different feel to a movie. There is so much more there than can be done on film. As you say imagination expands with reading. So sad to see fewer people reading. Very nicely written my friend
Thank you for your kind understanding words soren, much appreciated.
Andy
You are always welcome Andy
Nicely done
Thank you Friendship, much appreciated.

I'll vote for that, Andy. I have a largeish bookcase full of books read, half read and awaiting their turn. My imagination is (not always but sometimes) much richer than any movie adaption can provide.
Thank you Dave, I too have many books in several bookcases, have been reading all my life.
