Easter Enlightenments

Tune: Horsley

('There is a green hill')

Matthew 27 v.62-66 & 28 v.1-8

*********

The chief priests and the Pharisees

To Pilate made their pleas

That Jesus' tomb sealed would be

So no deception, see

They said, Lest His disciples steal

Him away, their appeal

Was for a guard to watch by tomb

Stay by sepulchre's room

Pilate did give them a guard, they

Made tomb secure that day

Yet on the Sunday's early morn

Angel appeared at dawn

He descended and great earthquake

Did make tomb-keeper's shake

They became as dead men, angel

Rolled back the stone, we tell

He spoke to the two Marys there

Said, Good news I do share

Fear not, Jesus you seek, I know

He not here, I you show

Come, see the place where He did lay

He is risen this day

Goes before you to Galilee

And there you shall Him see

They from the tomb did rise quickly

And witnessed, true, freely

With fear and great joy told the word

Of angel they had heard
