To whom it may concern:

Doggerel Dave

Self-pity such a terrible disease.

An otherwise bright spark brought to his knees;

This be for no good reason other than

He just stuffed up and crossed a hard old man.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Apologies - I have never learned to let bad behavior pass me by without a response. A definite flaw in me, I’m afraid. This in all probability has a very limited publication life.....

    Now this rhyme strikes a true note self pity is a terrible disease thought I had it once but it was just a bad case of fleas. Another interesting read Dave Most that have the disorder are not strong enough to survive it. Hope that they don't take matters into their own hands. Lot of fragile people these days. Well written though my friend.

      I have absolute empathy when it comes to a case of fleas, Soren. After my family arrived in tropical North Queensland from London, we were invaded by them (you have to picture close by the bush, dunny - toilet - at bottom of the yard). Mum swore us to secrecy as a case of fleas in London had shameful connotations....... then the next door neighbour remarked, unsolicited in general conversation "Those bloody fleas are back..."

        I'll give your suggestion active consideration in the while, Rik. Thanks for your contribution.

        That self pity can be dispersed with finding something that you enjoy, if it happens to me I go to music.
