Emmaus Encounter

Tune: Gelobt sei Gott = Praise God

('Good Christians all, rejoice and sing!')

Luke 24 v.25-32

**********

Jesus on the Emmaus road

Explained the scriptures as He trode

With the disciples, clearly showed

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Showed how He, Christ, should suffer so

Then die and resurrection know

And salvation to all bestow

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Thus Christ would enter His glory

He showed to them how it would be

How He fulfilled each prophecy

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

They bid the risen Jesus stay

With them at Emmaus that day

Believing Him the Truth, Life, Way

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

He broke bread as He did before

His death, and they then knew for sure

He is the Lord who lives e'ermore

Alleluia, Alleluia, alleluia!

Then He did vanish from their sight

Disciples had His inward light

His life dispelling darkness, night

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Orchi, there’s a bright, steady rhythm here…scripture unfolding, recognition dawning, and then that quiet shift into inward light. It holds the story without forcing it, and the refrain keeps it lifted throughout. And somewhere along the road, Popeyeus Glug Maximus Solus is probably trying to interpret scripture between glugs while Old Obi Wan mutters “oi be…walk first, lad, then talk…” 😂🥬🙏 Well done, my friend. Happy Easter! 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

Jesus is already facepalming at me thinking this, so I might as well say it...then pray for forgiveness: This Easter, Jesus isn't the only thing to rise.

      Glug.

      Yup. I warned...Jesus facepalmed. 🤣

Thank you T. Along that road, whether winding or straight, one hears a sound, mysterious to some, a certain glugging sound.... we knew he would turn up! lol.

This is a wonderful hymn Orchi retelling a famous story from the New Testament. Very nicely composed

Thank you N. I've been thinking a day ahead lately. But yes, they travelled on the 'evening of that same day' - which was 'the first day of the week', i.e. Sunday.
So by Monday they had returned home again.
Would it have been quicker for them to have got the No.11 bus, instead of walking 7 miles to Emmaus, and then 7 miles back again?! lol.
