Letters to a Silent Father.

Gurpreet Kaur

Notice of absence from Gurpreet Kaur
Taking a little break, but my thoughts are still writing stories.

Dad,
I’m grown up now,
but I still cry.

I was supposed to be your little princess,
the one you rushed home to,
perched on your shoulders,
watching the sky change colors.

I was supposed to throw tantrums in candy shops,
hide behind you when Mumma got mad,
and make you Father’s Day cards,
crooked hearts, too much glue, all for you.

But instead,
I write to a silence
that never answers back. 💔

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem is about the childhood I was supposed to have but never did. It’s me grieving the love I needed and giving a voice to the little girl in me who’s still reaching out… even if all she hears is silence. 💔
