Ask

Katie B.

When day becomes night

Ask of my day

Did I offer love?

Did I make my work my own?

Did I bear burdens in stride?

Tell me my share is enough

That my work is sufficient

That I cared for another

With your good intentions

Tell me what I have found is contentment

Ask of my day

Ask of my night

Katie, this carries a quiet honesty that really works…those questions feel real and grounded. I love your use of repetition. Since you asked, if you wanted to refine it...I’d just look at letting your strongest lines breathe a bit more through spacing. Nothing major…just small shaping to let what’s already there land even deeper. Beautifully written, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

Acknowledgement is seldom given and even less seldom specific

I tend to ask myself these couple of questions- is it saying what I want it to say in the manner in which I want it said and am I liking it? Then the internal debate flares up to the point that I post up what is essential a begrudging draft and revise at a later time and with the benefit of other perspectives. But we all do it in our own unique and ever developing ways. 🙏🏻🕊️
