Welcome to The World™

Tristan Robert Lange

Notice of absence from Tristan Robert Lange
Life is full of seasons. This is a season of transition for me, where I will be moving with my family to a new location. As such, with much logistics to consider, I am doing my best to keep up. Please know if I accidentally don't respond, it is not because I am ghosting or becoming distant. Once things settle after the move, I am sure life will return to some normalcy. In the meantime, and always:

Tristan 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛
Oh my goodness,
Oh me, oh my,
I’m only seventeen,
Too young to die.

I hit the bed early,
Mommy tucks me in,
I pray for God’s forgiveness
To cover all my sin.

Tomorrow’s my birthday
I’ll get to stay up late
As a real, bonafide adult,
Minus booze...can’t wait.

Then I will know sex
And be allowed to curse,
But until midnight’s stroke,
My childish lips will purse.

Oh my good gosh,
Oh dear heaven above,
Until the dark hour hits,
Keep me from 18+ love.

Then, my dear Lord,
I can stay ever pure;
Tomorrow I’m an adult
And will see every lure.

Ooh. Fuck yes! It’s here.
Twelve has arrived a cure.
My childish days behind me,
I’m adulting now for sure.

I need not stay in bed—
Head’s grown, ideas unfurled—
Send me right off to war,
I’m welcomed to The World™.

And Popeye says, Welcome to the glugging world! lol. He's a fine one, glugging 23h 59m of each day.

    • Tristan Robert Lange

Haha thank you, my friend. Honestly, Popeye probably sees adulthood exactly this way too. Midnight strikes…suddenly he’s qualified to run the vineyard, command the navy, and glug sacramental spinach spirits 🤢 directly from the cask. 🤣🍷⚓🎈⚰️🪖🙏

    • Friendship

Well written. Your poem addresses themes of youth, maturity, and the innocence of childhood juxtaposed with the perceived freedoms and responsibilities of adulthood. The poet expresses both eagerness and reluctance to embrace adulthood, highlighting the conflicting feelings that often accompany this rite of passage.

      • Tristan Robert Lange

Thank you so much, Friendship. You absolutely picked up on the central tension I was exploring here…the strange cultural switch where innocence is fiercely guarded right up until the moment adulthood suddenly arrives all at once. There’s excitement in that transition, but also something unsettling and absurd about it too. Really grateful for your thoughtful read, my friend. 🎈⚰️🪖🙏

They grow up far too quickly these days .. its all sin, down hill & debauchery after that .. Yeah bring it on why don'tcha .. 😎🖤🖤🖤🖤🐈‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🖤👍

        • Tristan Robert Lange

Hahaha, Neville…exactly. One minute it’s “protect the children,” the next it’s “here’s crushing debt, existential dread, and, 'hey, watch out for that IED!' Welcome aboard!" 🤣🎈⚰️🪖🙏

        • Paul Bell

Was it Vietnam where the average age was nineteen.
Some say youth is wasted on the young, but no one hesitates to send them to war before they can take a drink it seems.
REMEMBER. Your country needs you. Seems ironic doesn't it.

          • Tristan Robert Lange

Thank you, Paul. Yes…the irony is exactly what I was wrestling with underneath the satire here. Society spends years insisting someone is too young, too innocent, too vulnerable…and then suddenly hands them warfare, debt, and existential responsibility practically overnight...but, not old enough to smoke a joint, cigarette, drink booze, or rent a car. But we hand them a gun? 🤔😐🤷‍♂️ Making sense of the nonsense is truly a full time job, no? Really grateful for your thoughtful reflection, my friend. 🎈⚰️🪖🙏

          • Doggerel Dave

Get that cannon fodder off to war before it has a chance to experience and interpret the richness and complexity of life. Just the right tail/tale, Tristan.

            • Tristan Robert Lange

Dave, exactly. Ship them off before they’ve even had enough life to question the machinery properly. Heaven forbid. Or as Marilyn Manson sings in Welcome to America, "We don't like to kill our unborn, we need them to grow up and fight our wars." Makes complete sense, right? 🤬

Really appreciate your read, my friend. 🎈⚰️🪖🙏

Here the progression of maturing and becoming an adult whatever that is. It carries with it a bit of satire as one is allowed sex then alcohol and finally the ability to kill one's fellow men. What a sad situation it is.

            • David Wakeling

This is an amazing depiction of the terrifying "coming of age" joutney we all go through.Well done

            • Dan Williams

Ahh, the myths of landmark birthdays. At least for me, none turned out to be very memorable. Too many American Greetings invented anniversaries. Good job.
