an older poet's advice

"Older Poet’s Advice"

Self‑inquiry begins as a shift in emphasis,
a quiet redirection of attention
that solitude makes possible.
Inner necessity gathers in the background,
steady, unannounced, shaping the next move.

Patience arranges the work in a workable order,
letting each part settle before the next begins.
Criticism filters through the process,
kept only where it clarifies intent.
Love & distance create a spacing that holds.

Sadness as transformation alters the scale of things,
changing how the present is measured.
Childhood memory moves through the day
as a set of quiet indicators, while
Art & nature continue their steady exchange.

Everything leans toward becoming.

Now That`s a meditation, Arqios! As someone once said, "we don`t meditate, we get meditated." "Everything leans towards becoming." Words of power, my friend.

    • arqios

So glad that you see it that way, Kevin. Most appreciated, dear friend 🙏🕊️

How do you know my "real" name?!

        • arqios

It was a fluke, M. I exchange banter so much with K.H. that the auto-suggest just inserted the name.

          • Mutley Ravishes

What a great "fluke"! It moves in mysterious ways!

It is the last line that struck me strongest. In a world of change everything is becoming literally or as something new. Entropy is change as well and in its own way becoming.

            • arqios

We are in the process of becoming. And some lean more into it than others. Thanks Soren🙏🕊️

              • sorenbarrett

You are most welcome my friend as to change I am slow and fight it most of the time, clumsy and retarded in my becoming. Never the less it happens.

                • arqios

That is the inevitability of it all. I'm no quick study myself and take the long and winding route.

                  • sorenbarrett

I find that route much more scenic

arqios…this feels less like a poem and more like wisdom slowly distilled over years of living and creating. The tone is so calm, measured, and assured that it almost reads like someone setting stones carefully into place. “Everything leans toward becoming” is a gorgeous final line. Beautiful work, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛
