Time, The Potter

mohammad ali

جامی است که عقل آفرین می‌زندش
صد بوسه ز مهر بر جبین می‌زندش
این کوزه‌گر دهر چنین جام لطیف
می‌سازد و باز بر زمین می‌زندش

A cup is body; wit would say, "Well-done!"
A hundred kisses sure on brow to run
So kindly; Time—the potter—would create
So fine the cup and knocks it down as fate.

The breakdown of the last run of words where the meter can be seen emphasizing each word. Translation is a most difficult thing in poetry I have tried it and always something is lost. Very nice Mohammad

My dear friend! How is it now? Meaningful with a proper rhyme rhythm? All the words of the original poem are included; just the final phrase of 'as fate' for the sake of rhyme.

A cup is body, wit would say, "Well-done!"
A hundred kisses sure on brow to run
    So kindly; Time—the potter—would create
So fine the cup and knocks it down as fate.
