The chase

sorenbarrett

Hare in front, hounds behind, each hop a shunt another dinner to find
A single mind in the hunt, running blind, by nose alone the hare to confront
Baying sound of a straying hound surveying ground with each preying bound
in their lair under a mound a pair of hare is laying till found
Beyond prickly bur how quickly does stir sickly rabbit fur

Never hunted except for food. So that affects me even when by nature hounds do what comes natural for game. Very effective poem. 🕊️🙏

Thanks for the read Cryptic. I too do not hunt (except for items I've lost) but know that it is part of nature's way. Your words are most appreciated my friend

Forgive my ignorance if they were hares where does the rabbit fur come from? 🤣

              • sorenbarrett

Good question my friend I guess hares have hairs that is furnished as fur. Thanks so much for the read and comment you made me think and that is a rare occurrence.

Soren, wow…this one runs on pure sound and momentum, my friend. The rhyme and internal rhythm feel almost breathless…like the chase itself never slows long enough to think. There’s something primal and unsettling woven through the whole thing. Powerful write and a fave for the sound and momentum of it. Just wow. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

                  • sorenbarrett

Thank you so much my good friend for noticing that. Life is chaotic not just for us but all life. It struck me watching a hare running full out this morning with the sound of dogs far behind that soon too raced by. I felt the primal hunt and this just came out. Your comments are always most appreciated Tristan

If the Hare was chased by 'The Tortoise' it would have been the same result. So it couldn't win.
                    Good Write here.

Thanks for the read Andy yes hope for one is despair for the other. A torn hare as opposed to a hungry hound

Harsh predator-prey dynamic, rich in sound and urgency. Good one

no problem - there are days when i hardly get time to read or write, and i feel they are wasted; but then friends and family demand our time too...
