May’s last Monday
We gather as the sea
Paying homage to our soldiers
Who battled gallantly
At three o’clock
Our heads hang low
Remembering the warriors
Their lives they’d forego
Adorning graves with flowers
Flags and wreaths
Our solemn tradition
They, the grantor of peace
Acknowledging sacrifice
Acknowledging valor
Defenders in uniform
Battling for our power
Do we honestly know
Of our protectors in the night
Standing watch with diligence
In each perilous fight
Red poppies pronounce
All that rest
Born into strife
Sacrificing all, their one given life

Indeed, then we will have arrived at the half-year mark. Time is flying. A blessed Memorial Day
Well said
This really moved me, my friend. There’s a sincere reverence running through the entire piece that feels deeply appropriate for Memorial Day. The steady rhythm and solemn tone give it the feeling of a communal remembrance…quiet, respectful, and heartfelt. Wonderful write, Katie. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦⬛
