There was a young lad who
gulped down a lie,
I don’t know why he gulped down
a lie, surely he’ll cry!
There was a young lad who
gulped down a slider
that sizzled and drizzled and
pickled inside urgh,
he gulped down the slider to
feed the lie,
I don’t know why he gulped down
a lie, surely he’ll cry!
There was a young lad who
gulped down a third,
speech was slurred, downing the third!
He gulped down the third to drench
the slider, that sizzled and drizzled
and pickled inside urgh,
he gulped down the slider to
feed the lie,
I don’t know why he gulped down
a lie, surely he’ll cry!
There was a young lad who
gulped down a chat,
a chancy twat, gulping the chat!
He gulped down the chat to just the third,
he gulped down the third to drench
the slider, that sizzled and drizzled
and pickled inside urgh,
he gulped down the slider to
feed the lie,
I don’t know why he gulped down
a lie, surely he’ll cry!
There was a young lad who
gulped down some slog,
crippled in bog, gulping on slog!
He gulped down some slog to write the chat,
he gulped down the chat to just the third,
he gulped down the third to drench
the slider, that sizzled and drizzled
and pickled inside urgh,
he gulped down the slider to
feed the lie,
I don’t know why he gulped down
a lie, surely he’ll cry!
There was a young lad who
gulped down a vote,
loved all they wrote, downing a vote!
He gulped down a vote to work the slog,
he gulped down some slog to write the chat,
he gulped down the chat to just the third,
he gulped down the third to drench
the slider, that sizzled and drizzled
and pickled inside urgh,
he gulped down the slider to
feed the lie,
I don’t know why he gulped down
a lie, surely he’ll cry!
There was a young lad who
gulped down a vow,
something so foul, gulping this vow!
He gulped down a vow, to snatch a vote,
he gulped down a vote to work the slog,
he gulped down some slog to write the chat,
he gulped down the chat to just the third,
he gulped down the third to drench
the slider, that sizzled and drizzled
and pickled inside urgh,
he gulped down the slider to
feed the lie,
I don’t know why he gulped down
a lie, surely he’ll cry!
There was a young lad who
gulped down a force…
now he’s buried amongst the gorse!!

- Comment from author about the poem: Wow! That was, and still is a lot! I am sorry for yet again another hiatus, however, another drama "had to be endured!" I have not yet found a true solution of closure, but my fingers are crossed for a change for the better. With that said, I thought I would give you all this: a telling parody on the famous poem by Dorothy B King, "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly", though my take on it, is a sad reflection of what is happening today, and is entitled "There Was a Young Lad Who Gulped Down a Lie." I hope that you enjoy and take something from this parody, sorry again for my impromptu absence, and as always, please do stay safe in the madness everyone!

A familiar flow and meter from there was an old lady that swallowed a fly. Great fun and well done.
Thanks for the read and for your kind commentary sorenbarrett, it is very much appreciated, and I am glad that you enjoyed it.
I hope that all is well.
You are most welcome my friend and hope that things are well with you also
It also made me imagine that he was best friends with (probably once a long time ago) with Pinocchio but that there had been a certain strain in their friendship. 🕊️🙏
Thanks for the read arqios and for your kind and enthusiastic linking to such a great old tale.
When I, or more pertinently, when we were all children, we took stories at face value and were excited about the brighter colours that created our innocent amusement, and as you have pointed out, Pinocchio is a great example. However, now that I am older, and just like you have eluded to, it is more fun, and more spiritually worthwhile, to delve deeper and appreciate the darker tones of the story, perhaps, in the hope to find ways to learn from our own mistakes, or to simply accept both the light and the dark.
Thanks again, and I hope that all is well.
Most welcome. And yes, I totally agree with that interactive relationship with our childhood literary experiences. It's a lot of fodder for imagination and further literature. 🕊️🙏
