The Sea Churns

Katie B.

Like a tidal wave, it took him down

Rushing waters pummel me to the shore

The sea churns

Salty water absorbs little pain

Inexplicable

Cataclysmic

The water laps at his bony ankles

Settles at my wavering hips

It drove him to distant seas, foreboding lands

To corners of the earth I cannot access

Like living without bones

Like brokenness we carry on our knees

Years eclipse us

The sea still churns

Hope lies in the vastness of the sea

Indeed so true Katie hope lies in the vastness of the sea. A phrase with deep meaning as deep as the sea itself. All things from space itself to our very population depends on vastness and so it is in both directions outward and inward. A lovely write and a fave

The sea will feed you, bathe you, but also kill you if you're not careful.
Probably why we're always drawn to it.

Katie, this hit me hard. The grief here feels immense, but what moved me most is that the poem never completely surrenders to it. Even after all the years and distance, there is still hope moving beneath the surface. Powerful write, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛
