What is a friend

sorenbarrett

As a young fool going to school I brought a magnifying glass
I told a friend, light I could bend, showing him at recess from class
Paper for the capper, I laid in the dry grass of an open field
Through the glass a dot of sun did pass, soon heat it did yield

Before long, a whisp of smoke grew strong, then a flame did erupt
I was filled with dread as fire quickly spread, it was all so abrupt
Fire the cry, we ran my friend and I, but soon we were caught
Firetrucks arrived, a lie we contrived the accusation we both fought

Emotionally shaken, to the principal taken, thought we would dance
I had a thought, the glass I brought put down the back of my pants
The principal did say that someone must pay for this heinous wrong
Seeing the paddle, my friend would not tattle, both our tongues held strong

Noticing what I'd done, my friend was the one to confess
Knowing that glass would cut my ass, he alone guilt did profess

Well crafted and emotionally engaging. A narrative poem with a beginning, rising action, climax, and resolution, structured in four quatrains representing the introduction, conflict, crisis, and resolution, and exploring the themes of childhood innocence, fear, friendship, and moral courage.

Nicely written story. Your story narrates a childhood incident involving two friends who accidentally start a fire while experimenting with a magnifying glass. The aftermath reveals their friendship's strength and the moral dilemmas they face when confronted with potential punishment

Soren, this is a wonderful blend of humor, suspense, and childhood mischief. It feels like one of those stories everyone has tucked away somewhere, and that ending brought it home perfectly. Really enjoyed this one, my friend. πŸŒΉπŸ–€πŸ™πŸ•―οΈπŸ¦β€β¬›
