A complaint

NafisaSB

The crows

Came and complained to me

Of the shots being fired in the dark

Why oh why

They asked of me

Should hunters be allowed in the park?

As for them it was a case of survival

While the men were out on a lark…

Silent and still

I listened to them

And the thought then came to me

When men behaved like savages of old

And on killing fellow-beings did agree

Then how, oh how, could they be expected

To leave the birds scot-free????

Man, should come with a health warning.
Never understood the hunting game, killing an animal for a trophy, what a waste.
Do like it when the animal kills the hunter though.

Yes, Killing for pleasure is definitely a no-no and yet unfortunately it is practiced around the world.

A clever poem sending a powerful message about mankind and its disregard for life. Nicely rhymed it is a fave

It’s sad but true- thanks for the feedback- appreciate itπŸ’πŸ™πŸΌ

I liked this very much, Nafisa. In plain but poetic terms it calls out the depravity involved in the wilful killing of another living being.

            Great moral authority.

            • NafisaSB

Thank you- I still fail to understand how willful killing can be a sport and yes it does pose a moral dilemma when we realize that we (me and some others) continue to be non vegetarians πŸ€”πŸ˜¬

As a long time veggo, (but not vegan; I still have a way to go, but won't make it - I love cheese too much) please don't push that until I'm not looking, as I would probably rampage through the place and upset many people.....

                • NafisaSB

i won't push - but anytime you feel like it, go ahead - it's your life, and you are entitled to act as you wish-lol
by the way, my Dutch daughter in law also loves cheese, and we find it in almost every meal we have together..!!

Violence is part of a broader pattern of human behavior, and the irony lies in the fact that some people advocate compassion in one context while accepting cruelty in another.

Being a non vegetarian I can fully understand the irony of my calling out on willful killing for pleasure and yet allowing myself to consume halal food

Dear poet, I understand your point, and I appreciate you acknowledging the irony. Personally, though, I make a distinction between using animals for food and hunting or killing them purely for pleasure. While I respect that others may see it differently, I believe there is a meaningful moral difference between taking an animal's life for sustenance and doing so solely for entertainment.

in response to your explanation, I am in complete agreement; hence continue being a nv...

Safina, this really moved me. I love how you give the crows a voice, only to reveal that the real question isn’t about the birds at all…it’s about us. Beautifully done, my friend. πŸŒΉπŸ–€πŸ™πŸ•―οΈπŸ¦β€β¬›

thank you - its strange how we say we love birds and nature, and then go around wilfully destroying it..

                        • soheil khodaparasti

Thank you for your kind response. In my circumstances, remaining non-vegetarian is necessary too.

Then, let's hope for favorable winds and smooth sailing ahead.
