Why Time is Such an Able Thief

Why Time is Such an Able Thief

It feels like

autumn already ..

I’ve got that

lead in my limbs

again feeling

like a desert is

almost upon me ..

Dear lord,

how can we both

possibly

survive like this

on the same page

with such

a thirst raging

between us

and the emphasis

always being

upon our longing ..

While together,

we run on empty

and it is

killing us, but ever

so slowly

and autumn is

simply taking its toll ..

Your poem holds that quiet ache of two people running on empty together, capturing how time steals not with violence but with the slow, autumnal weight that settles into the limbs and the longing between them. So relatable dear Neville. πŸ™πŸ•ŠοΈ

A beautiful piece my friend where the emptiness and decay seen in Autumn may be taken merely as a cycle of nature that comes and goes as mentioned in the line "I’ve got that lead in my limbs again" Yet there is a finality of deterioration in the poem as if age is taking its toll. In this process one suffers with those one travels with in this life. "On empty" and there seems to be a longing for union that is somehow denied. A lovely write my friend.

Erm, yes, hope it wasn't two days in June - and that's it. Summer, I mean!

I think I must leave this to a metaphorical interpretation here, Neville most ably commented upon above. For myself, I can only suggest that autumn may come as a relief from your summer just as I will experience spring shortly with more than a little trepidation.

Hey you old dog Dave, you can beat an egg etc etc but you just can't eat a bit of metaphoria now can ya eh' .. .. Neville πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘

Ye Gods ! (definitely a metaphor for summat there...) You can see right through me !

                    Look after yourself, Neville.

Neville, this hit me hard…two people bound together yet slowly drained by everything they cannot reach. Quietly devastating, my friend. πŸŒΉπŸ–€πŸ™πŸ•―οΈπŸ¦β€β¬›

...because despite your superb metaphor, August is the beginning of autumn. This is gorgeous. I do so love it. Thank you very much for sharing.

How cool is that .. Maybe we could fall together .. or summat .. you cheeky Missy U .. πŸ˜ŽπŸŒ»πŸ‘
