Spring Cleaned
Can’t you just tell
its spring
or thereabouts ..
The old house smells
vaguely again
of both hyacinths
and new disinfectant ..
Plus there’s not
a single cobweb
or dust mote in sight ..
Meanwhile,
in the yard outside,
the line looks
fit to break beneath
the combined
weight of our fresh
laundered sheets
and all of our
blankets are stowed
somewhere safe
until the first freeze
at the very least ..
But still, in the interim,
freshly squeezed
sunlight is welcome
to filter and to
strain itself through
grandma’s old
crochet net curtains ..
Oh’ and take
a good look at both
the grate and at
the hearth while you
are here since they’ve
both been blacked
and scrubbed clean ..
Plus the fairies
have been and left
a handful of daisies ..
Each stood in a brown
earthenware pot
on a table next to
the recently touched
up window sill
and several very neat
piles of old household dust ..

I remember the days that spring cleaning was the thing. No longer a custom today. Accumulated trash fills the rooms of young and old. And it applies in metaphor as well with accumulated trash in the mind that would best be cleaned but is kept and horded. Interesting that in a throw away society we keep so much junk. Well written my friend
I like your take on this sorenbarrett .. & I've asked myself that very same question time and time again .. cheers, Neville
You are most welcome Neville
A poem celebrating the ritual of spring cleaning, but beneath the surface of this simple scene itβs really about renewal, memory, and the quiet magic of domestic life.
You got it I'm glad to say .. Cheers, just wait till we start upstairs .. Neville
Dat so, eh? What a very charming piece fit to grace the walls and pages of everywhere with its lilting descriptions of that fair season of courtship. Lovely and so beautifully rendered with a wealth of delightful imagery and a sweetly haunting poignancy I can't pin down. Thank you for sharing.
Ta for making it all so very worthwhile .. Neville
Well written. Your poem captures the essence of spring cleaning as a metaphor for not only physical tidying but also emotional and spiritual cleansing. You painted the imagery of a clean and fresh home, the scent of flowers, and the act of preparing for the new season, all of which evoke feelings of warmth, nostalgia, and a sense of home. Lovely done, my friend.
You have the most incredible eye my friend .. thank you most kindly .. Neville
My friend, this is one heck of a charming poem! The house feels scrubbed, aired, and awakened, yet its history remains present in every carefully observed detail. The playful closing touch is perfect. Wonderful write, Neville! πΉπ€ππ―οΈπ¦ββ¬

You are way too kind Dan .. & by the way, it's good to hear from you my friend .. Neville
Can I hire the large team which achieved all that, Neville? Not long before spring arrives here, so your richly descriptive ad really caught my attention.π
it was a one man show Dave, I tried to sell tickets but so few were interested I almost gave up .. cheers tho' for allowing your attention to be so kind .. Neville π
Dunno about the quality, but you are way ahead of me - I have difficulty raising a duster.
Neva mind the sweat, your piece provided a rich picture of your joint.
