Healing
Sometimes
staying is a wound,
and leaving,
like a cool breeze
upon the skin
of that very wound,
is healing
Sometimes,
when passing through the mirror,
you do not see
your own shadow,
but yourself
Sometimes
being
lies in letting go,
not in holding on;
just as the river,
by passing,
remains a river
Sometimes
longing
is the bitter taste of freedom,
the scent of rain
that no longer
falls upon
yesterday’s roof
Sometimes
the road
breathes
by passing through
the frame of a door
Sometimes
leaving
is finding,
not becoming lost;
like a bird
that chooses the horizon
for the sake
of the sky
Sometimes
time
crosses
the edge of longing
before longing can
And sometimes
a wound
becomes so one
with the body
that
it is healing

These are not just beautiful poetic words but deep wisdom that like that rain and river quench the thirst of those that will listen. Although the whole poem should not be broken into pieces in my reading I was particularly struck by and love the stanza:
"Sometimes
being
lies in letting go,
not in holding on;
just as the river,
by passing,
remains a river"
This seems the obverse or other side of the coin of Heraclitus that said a man can not step into the same river twice and when I read this it struck me hard as that balance spoken in the same metaphor just as profoundly. This write has the ring of a classic and in my weakness of envy only wish that I had written it.
Thank you for your deeply thoughtful and generous comment.
Your appreciation means more than I can express; it humbles me not only because of your kindness, but because it reflects such a sensitive and profound engagement with poetry.
I am grateful for the beauty and insight you bring to this exchange. Your reflections are always a gift.
May your poetry always blossom my friend
Thank you for your beautiful and generous wish. I sincerely return the same wish to you.
