Thrown Away Things

Neville

Thrown Away Things

I wonder if I told her

she would get it,

or would she try to

bury her head

in the sand and buy

herself out of it

by any chance since

I always knew it

was a long shot right

from the off ..

But still I had to take

it just for the sake

of my own peace of

mind etc etc ..

Whatever the case

though, all our plans

and our gains

were each as fleeting

as old Filofax,

Betamax and eight

tracks back in the day ..

In a word, they

were nothing more

than flash in the pans

or rich boys toys ..

Those which all too

soon became cheap

throw away playthings

and only used for

so called fast getaways ..

And such are relationships often a flash in the pan but we take the chance anyway if only for a throw away toy. A lovely write my friend

Neville, what a thoughtful and quietly cutting piece. I know the need to follow possibility despite suspecting where it leads...and your procession of yesterday’s prized possessions captures the cold disposability beneath it all. One heck of a write, my friend! 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

Nicely written . Your poem contemplates the futility of holding onto certain ambitions and material possessions, comparing them to obsolete items such as Filofaxes, Betamaxes, and eight-tracks. It seems to convey a sense of resignation to the impermanence of life and the inevitability of change.

            Bless you Friendship .. Neville

The classic fling in so many words, and THIS time from HIS perspective...why, oh WHY do I now see 007 conjured up from--?! Beautifully rendered with excellent imagery and a damning poignancy. Oh James! But I'll never stop loving you.

              Sometimes in the morning light
we realize what we did last night
then in the clear of the day
              we make our fast getaway
              Though hearts become merely things
we cling to what freedom brings
              Thrown away in self-defense
              we chalk it up experience.

I read this as a lament upon a morning after, where we regret our own actions. It's true that in retrospect we rue what happened; but justify it as preservation of own independence. Later in life we come to ponder the affair and wonder what might have been. We recognize then that we might have broken a heart and/or thrown away an opportunity for happiness. Either way, all is said and done and we are where we are. i found great wisdom in your poem and loved the way it ended ina "fast getaway." - Phil A.
