Remember 1983 and Trends?!

Cheeky Missy

(sonnet #MMMMMMMMMM)

Slouch socks are quite the mem'ry, kitchen thence

With lights on, and my gym shoes sans avail:

Split at the seams cuz three pairs' trendy scale

Of mixing colours up yer ankle hence

Defy the common tennis shoe, the sense

The photos showed WITHOUT shoes; that detail

Was not intended. Mom warned me. In frail

Reply I kept up lay'ring. Dear me, whence?

Could over forty years change aught, in poor

'Scuse, why's that vivid scene revive its cue?

"Thick" slouch socks swear Italian boots demure

Sense are no match for them. What shall I do?

Boots that want thick boot socks, of course. We were

But children then, now old; LORD, I need You.

With any luck we all age and things change. Nicely done

Now here's such a charming throwback, with the colours, layers, and the carefree flair of ’83. The sonnet wrapped the moment in such bright nostalgia. Amazing how those small trends linger in the heart long after the decades have wandered on. 🙏🕊️

Especially when you're crazy enough to pull off deja vu. Thank you so very much!

Thinking backwards like you just made me do .. made me 1) smile and 2) slide of my chair .. Now I feel well n truly sonnetized .. N

        That's not surprising. Thank you.

        Although I can't remember 83 as it's the year I was born, I remember 80s fashion.

        A really enjoyable read.

I only wear (and bless) cotton socks. Must have missed all that on my way through. I'll have to plunder my fading memory, as your sock led sonnet should be remembered and revered...

The pairs which inspired this number are thick, cotton, made in the USA, and beautifully slouchy per specs. Italian luxury boots are not crafted to take thick socks of any stripe, ever. That's your only hint. Thank you.

Did yer send the boots to a charity shop then?

              • Cheeky Missy

Ha! No way in earth! Those are my footwear.

                Good memories 🤔😛

Slouch socks and Italian boots, was that a fashion icon, or a cry for help.
A bit like my crombie and dock martins. We looked great we thought. lol

Deja vu was eerie, which is the only reason this sonnet exists. I found myself on the edge of repeating 40 years previous as if Id never learned anything at all.
