Thirty Second Love of my Life

JWKP98

It was just another summer day, she was far from just another femme

We crossed paths by accident, I’d say she was a, but there’s more than one gem

Even as I told myself it was all meaningless chance, happenstance, I couldn’t help but ask myself, “Why’s she talking with me and none of them?”

We struck up a conversation early, then we were hanging out all day

This and that, light and heavy, shallow and deep, it was an exceptionally fun game to play

But now I’m asking, “Did I fumble?” because as night fell, she drove away

She appeared and as quickly burned out, like to the brain a split second thrust of the knife

Now, my mind is uncontrolled, with her, my imagination runs rife

So goes the story of the thirty second love of my life

She had confidence and attitude that made for a burning hot flame

Eyes that made diamonds and stars hide themselves in shame

How fitting it’d be so strong and unique, her name

A voice more energizing than lightning, more soothing than gentle rain

A mind to match, I wish I wasn’t so mesmerized by that brain

How are you flattening the waves as you drive me insane?

She appeared and as quickly burned out, like to the brain a split second thrust of the knife

Now, my mind is uncontrolled, with her, my imagination runs rife

So goes the story of the thirty second love of my life

It’s the one that was and will never be

The fun of being filled up, but when she went, not being left drained empty

Still, I wonder, like ancient philosophers on the beach gazing over the horizon of the sea

You can’t blame me, you would too, as I contemplate

Should it be a footnote in history, or should I have taken the shot, did I deny fate?

No, probably not, but she’s unforgettable and that day was great

She appeared and as quickly burned out, like to the brain a split second thrust of the knife

Now, my mind is uncontrolled, with her, my imagination runs rife

So goes the story of the thirty second love of my life

A most romantic write of a brief moment in time. It seems in one way or another we all have had moments like this and they become fantasies and dreams that are never fulfilled but standards against which we measure others in a most unfair manner. Well written

It wasn't even a classic fling, just a lively interaction sparking more than meets the eye, yet like shooting stars how swiftly gone. Beautifully rendered with an excellent refrain and haunting poignancy.

Much appreciate the praise, especially as I don't write as often as I used to.
