THE RELUCTANT SOLDIER

nephilim56 ( Norman Dickson)

Hear the siren
In the distance
Grown men
Shudder and cry
Incoming from
All sides
Wipe those tears
From your eyes.

Because you are
The reluctant soldier
Sent a letter
To go out and die
Leave your home
Your job and family
Raise the flag
And say goodbye.

To become a number
Figures on a map
Moved around a table
Generals are sat
The office types letters home
So sorry for your loss
Always died a hero
Shall never be forgot.
