I say goodbye
To dying moments
As twilight flickers
By the way
In the emptiness
Of sorrow
A quiet drifting
To allay.
The anxious thoughts
Of closer tomorrow
Hours hands
Strike staring clock
A solemn face
Upon the mantle
Naked memories
Stare back.
Earlier attempts
To lift the spirit
Fell into
A darkened hole
Filled with depression
Sweet negativity
To periscope
My soul.

It is that last line that leaves me wondering to periscope a soul. It is that questioning that lingers on the mind and keeps the poem alive. Well done

very kind, thanking you, always much appreciated friend
Norman, this really moved me. There is a profound weariness throughout, as though the speaker has exhausted every available escape and is left confronting himself. Powerful work, my friend! πΉπ€ππ―οΈπ¦ββ¬
