Swan Song

Aa Harvey

Swan Song

She’s a dream I’ve never had. A final wish on my wish list.

A way to be the man I’ve always wanted to be in this existence.

I need to be in love. With her I could be happier.

She’s the only drug I need to give me all that which I am after.

After all, I’ve been searching long enough.

Surely I too, deserve to fall in love.

All I am asking for is the kindly touch,

Of the angels above, who hand out love.

I pray for the day she and I can be together.

I promise I will do all I can to make a love that never severs.

If she feels the same way, we will never part.

My destiny is in her hands. I offer my heart...

...To the Gods of my future,

If they allow me to be with her,

Then please give her my heart, if it suits her.

Then I can wear my best suit,

When I take her out on a date.

I guarantee you, I will not be late.

I’ll be there early, waiting in anticipation.

If I only get one chance, I will make it count,

For this could be my emancipation declaration.

I want to fall in love.

I’ve been trapped here too long.

I want for it to last.

I want my next love song, to be my swan-song.

There is a wonderful contradiction in this poem in the line I want to fall in love. Like wanting a reflex or a autonomic response love can not be wished but must be felt. Yet there are those that work on loving someone and over time do so as in arranged marriages. Nicely said.

Thank you. Love is all I want to truly happen for me. All else is of little consequence. (Except that love must be true and faithful.)

You are most welcome. True love is true and faithful but there is very little of it out there except in mothers.
