Right off the shelf

sorenbarrett

Would you buy a canned hug or a bottled kiss
Plastic love, glycerin tears with this the freshness miss
A cardboard heart, a Styrofoam smile
Hope made of fiberglass thrown out after a while

the throwaway goods of today, good write my friend

  • soheil khodaparasti

I really like how this poem uses artificial materials to explore the idea of love becoming commercialized and disposable. The final line leaves a sad impression, emphasizing how easily something once meaningful can be thrown away.

    • sorenbarrett

Thank you Soheil you have captured its essence and yes it is sad that things once valued and paid a high price for are soon discarded.

Wouldn't be surprising if people did and if suppliers fill shelves as well. πŸ™πŸ•ŠοΈ

I envy your ability to talk about love in such a high-tech way !

              • sorenbarrett

Thanks Lorenz it's the plug ins that turn me on.

You are now 79th in the queue to be answered, we thank you for your patience, meanwhile we'll play you some music that will certainly get you slitting your throat. Where do I get those bottled kisses.

                • sorenbarrett

Thanks Paul for the read. Yes in a mechanical world you would think that you would get greased once in a while but instead you get shocked

                  • Allie561

Canada prefers paper, but I may as well take plastic even though it’ll just be thrown away.

                    • sorenbarrett

Thanks Allie paper is nice but it means a tree has fallen plastic is just plain nasty

                      • Allie561

Very true may as well use nothing at all

So true. There's no Personal Touch anymore.
                          Everything is disposable.

                          • sorenbarrett

Thank you Kevin I appreciate your review and understanding. Yes we live in a throw away world where nothing is authentic from fake wood to fake relationships.

My friend, this is short but loaded. We manufacture substitutes for practically everything, then wonder why the genuine things become harder to recognize. That fiberglass hope especially landed with me. Wonderful write, Soren! πŸŒΉπŸ–€πŸ™πŸ•―οΈπŸ¦β€β¬›
