bones

lunarchloedip

When I am

Rotten flesh beneath a

Faded, moss-covered

Spider adorned

Once-adored

Long-forgotten

Headstone

And the maggots are

Writhing around my insides

They will intoxicate themselves

Get high

On the essence of you

For you are so

Entwined in my mind

The taste of you will be

All they find

I will not be there

I am not lingering

Beside a body I

Once used

Many times abused

Never really loved

I will not be found

But the evidence

Of you

Cannot be erased

Misplaced

The archeologists in

Centuries to come

Will dig up my bones

And find they come packaged in love

And wherever

You may be

I promise

I will

Also be.

This poem pairs dark and revolting images with the image of love. This diametric opposite juxtaposition creates tension that requires resolution found in the last lines. Well done
