One hundred and one years ago
He came into the world,
Oscar was born on that day
And he brought music to all.
He brought his jazz to all
And in my young life
I found his music
And became enthralled with it
And still listen to it in my dotage.
Such a great pianist who changed my world,
Changed my world of jazz
And showed me a different life.
So on this day Oscar I say
Many Happy Returns Oscar Peterson.

- Comment from author about the poem: His album Canadiana Suite was one of the first LPs I had in my life and I was lucky enough to see him live with his trio him on piano, Ray Brown on bass and Ed Thigpen on drums, it was an unforgettable concert.
