The bowler ran up to the wicket
And bowled the first ball,
The first ball of the test match.
The batsman missed the ball
And it hit his pads.
“OWZAT!” the bowler shouted,
The batsman was out,
Was out with the very first ball,
The very first ball of the test match.
The bowlers bowled their balls
And wickets were taken,
The team were all out,
All out for one hundred and seventy one,
Not a good score,
But the incredible thing was
That two bowlers took five wickets,
Took five wickets each,
Five wickets each in that one innings.
Two amazing facts in one innings,
Facts I have never seen before,
Never seen in test cricket,
Cricket that I watched all my life.
So absolutely amazing,

- Comment from author about the poem: Batsmen being out first ball in a Test Match has happened 30 times but two bowlers both taking five wickets in one innings I can find no record of.

Good write Gold. Heard of The Bedser twins, cricketers? Statue-type things of them in a town where a friend lives, one each end of a bridge.
Yes heard of them and seen Alec Bedser play.
A fun read where sports often looks for those occasions that are so rare as to merit comment and even recording. Nicely written my friend
Thank you soren, much appreciated.
Andy
Always a pleasure my friend
Don't go hunting a cricket statistic among the plethora. This is honest advice i dispense in order to preserve your mental equilibrium and ...why not do a sonnet:
'Cricket statistics how I do love thee'...there that's got you started....
Thanks Dave. I will see what I can do.
