Feast
Every morning,
I lift the blinds
and look from the kitchen.
The great spectacle of each day,
the great feast for my ears,
the quiet joy of seeing them.
Sparrows that come
and go to the garden,
a garden boxed in,
a tiny miniature
of my paradise.
Where they eat,
free birds
that come
to feed
on humble
crumbs
offered
from my soul.
And I lean out
to witness
the banquet
of those birds
that fly
across the sky,
and with small acrobatics
land in my life,
while I watch through the window.
Through the curtains I too take flight,
joining their joy as I watch them eat so simply—
that oats, that rice, and whatever God provides
in that white patio.
Where they scatter at the slightest noise,
where sometimes dozens gather:
sparrows, magpies,
blackbirds.
Birds
of paradise
in the solitude I seek,
appearing at the window,
in that quiet act of looking
through the curtains.
In that small happiness the days bring
from the simple gesture of offering food
to those little angels I call birds.
-----
Festín
Todas las mañanas,
levanto la persiana,
y en la cocina miro.
El gran espectáculo de cada día,
el gran festín para mis oídos,
la gran alegría de verlos.
Gorriones que van
y vienen al jardín,
jardín encajonado
en esa miniatura
de mi paraíso.
Donde comen
aves libres
que vienen
a comer
migajas
pobres,
ofrecidas
con mi alma.
Y me asomo
a esos mis pequeños ángeles llamados aves.

Birds do bring a song and happiness lightening the day. A lovely write nicely composed it leave a lighter feeling and one of serving a purpose of charity feeding the birds. Well done Carlos
Feeding birds is banned where I live, with fines up to 10,000 euros, but it breaks my heart to see them dead on the sidewalks....
Thank you for reading our poems
You are most welcome Carlos and I guess I can understand the ban and I agree interfering with nature is not right but then we interfered with it when we built buildings and tore down forests.
