The Damndest of Curses
Just as soon as I had it caught
and held tight
and so very close to my chest
on one of those
occasions now seemingly lost ..
I tried hard to save,
to gather or to salvage as much
as I possibly could
of what was then even remotely
recoverable ..
Hey I even tried, once or twice
to make a list of all
the places we made out together ..
Can’t you see thats
just how desperate I was but then
insight in hindsight
when it is essentially lost is most
surely the damndest
of all curses and it was then that
I realised my memory
and indeed poetry itself had been
denied something
exquisite and otherwise priceless ..

Good write N.
Cheers Orchidee .. Neville
Neville this is wonderful the use of a run on sentence tying it to the next thought and the next works so well. I love the idea of memory loss causing the loss of all beautiful memories and its poetry. A fave
I am so glad you could see it my way .. this is one of those I wasn't too sure about .. so many very sincere thanks indeed .. Neville
Damn, Neville...this carries such quiet desperation. The effort to preserve something precious only after it has begun slipping away is painfully human. Powerful work, my friend! πΉπ€ππ―οΈπ¦ββ¬
Your analysis is truly heartfelt Tristan .. Many thanks my friend .. Neville π¦ββ¬πββ¬π΄π€β¬βΌοΈβΎβͺοΈπ§
Holding on to something precious after it has already begun slipping away reminds me of packed sand held tightly that it escapes through the gaps of the grasping hand. Such a strong poem here, N. ππ»ποΈπ
You got me too my friend .. Thanks a bloomin bundle .. Neville ππ
I understand, can identify, but I almost wish you hadnβt reminded meβ¦
Nevertheless,
Thanks Neville.
Hey Dave so glad you came along .. This page would feel kind of empty if it hadn't got your paw prints left behind .. Ta n truly .. Neville
I do try, Neville. But you can leave the paw out - It is still recovering from a slight misplacement (external to MPS)
Ouch .. sorry to hear that .. hope UR now on the mend π
Landed in the world of metaphor and see where I ended up.
This was a case of social embarrassment - the human equivalent of putting one's foot in it...
