Aa Harvey

Books of poetry

Met a poet.

Can’t tell her my secrets.

Don’t want to show her my life in an instant.

We both write.

Can we both be right?

I’m looking behind as she stares off into the distance.

Metaphors open doors.

I show you my all and we share a world.

But to just say “Hi! These are all my flaws.”

Don’t think I can do that, to a stranger or to someone I adore.

Don’t get me wrong,

She’s not my favourite song.

Just a soul along the way.

We’re just floating on the same waves,

But I don’t know if I can tell her all my truths.

You know I keep all those especially for you.

So keep on reading.

Stop believing.

I have no happy ending,

Written in my biography.

I just think it’s nice that there are like-minded souls,

Out there who speak their truths,

In their own books of poetry.

This brought to mind how many times people assume that my poems are reflections of my life and how many times they are wrong and how many times they are right. One is wrong to assume for there are many secrets I would not tell while others I do freely. Nicely written
