Called on high

sorenbarrett

I've smelled orange blossoms, night Jasmin, magnolia, viburnum and honeysuckle
Taken a toke of marijuana, snorted cocaine, fine whiskey, wine and on champagne had a chuckle
But none can compare to sitting on my deck chair breathing night's air of angel trumpets blooming
Heaven knows no equal, there is no sequel to such delicious surreal mental perfuming

There is no sin where warmth settles in, drifting away on nature's high
A gift from my natural mother there is nothing I'd druther do than fly
Can't hardly breath but there's no way I'll leave I would rather die
I'd trade all my money for another taste of that trumpet honey, to leave it made me cry

A scent like no other, orange blossoms its closest brother, intoxicating olfactory treat
Left in a swoon one is taken to the moon, lodged in a heavenly suite
A name aptly given, by angelic horns aroma driven to a nirvana out of this world
A fragrance so rare none can compare when its petals in summer's breeze are unfurled

A tender write nature at its core

    Hi Sorenbarret,

The best things in life certainly are free. You've expressed this here beautifully. All those expensive intoxicating drugs being trumped by Trumpet Honey... I love that phrase, by the way. I wish I had a porch, deckchair and some angel trumpets of my own.

    Brilliantly written, my friend.

Thanks so much Syd for your review and kind words. I found them intoxicating and although they are listed as highly dangerous and narcotic they are a natural high of which I have found no equal.

    • arqios

Flora and fauna, botanics in this case, brings on a certain high. Even the trumpets are called by celestial ascribing. Much enjoyed. πŸ™πŸ»πŸ•ŠοΈ

Thanks Cryptic for your read and understanding comment. If a natural high is considered narcotic only because it can not be taxed I am for it.

Every illegal substance in the world will lift you up put you down empty your pockets and turn you around.
Though as you say, nature provides it free, it gives you a lift, benifits your health, and leaves a lasting effect on you.
A win, win you could say.

        • sorenbarrett

Thanks Paul I appreciate your read and take on this. It is my rebellious nature that kicks against a society that makes illegal what it can not control and tax.

Well you convinced me, Soren. And here I was, this entry to be a complaint that I, deprived of an olfactory experience you were prepared to boast about from the depths of the Brazilian rainforest, did not sit well with me.
Retracted. Bunnings, Our giant local supplier carries brugmansia if that be the same vegetation. Might have a spot for one, Means evicting an old established geranium, but will give the whole enterprise active consideration…
Goes without saying, it was an enjoyable write.

          • sorenbarrett

Thanks so much for the read my friend. This one came from my Florida place where for years it was illegal to have them but now I believe retracted. The huge flower is beautiful itself but it is the aroma on a warm summer night that takes one to heaven that I don't believe in.

Soren, I connect with this deeply. There are moments in nature that hit with a force no substance can reproduce...a scent, a sound, a night breeze, and suddenly you are somewhere else entirely. Wonderful work, my friend. πŸŒΉπŸ–€πŸ™πŸ•―οΈπŸ¦β€β¬›

Thanks so much Tristan I so appreciate your read and comment. Yes there are those scents, touches and images of sight and sound that bring such feelings. I have never felt so peaceful as with that scent.

A brilliant write on a natural high
                Tried the rest
                Found the best
I won't lie I had to look up druther
Fits perfectly as I expected it would
                A special one here Soren

                • sorenbarrett

Thank you Peto for the review and most kind words of encouragement. Yea sometime I have to throw in a slang term for what ever reason, sometime the feel sometimes the rhyme and sometimes just for the heck of it.

What a beautifully sensory piece. You make the fragrance feel almost tangible, as though the scent of the angel trumpets carries the speaker beyond ordinary experience and into something close to transcendence. I especially love the contrast between all the other intoxicating pleasures you mention and the realization that none of them can compare with something so simple and entirely natural. There is a wonderful sense of surrender to the night air, as if for a moment the world has offered you exactly what you needed.

                  • sorenbarrett

Thank you so much my friend. I deeply appreciate your recognition of this intoxicating experience. It is the closest I have come to another plain of pleasure. Surrender is a very good word to explain it.

                    • soheil khodaparasti

You are welcome. Some experiences seem to carry us beyond the ordinary, into a place where words begin to fall away and all that remains is wonder and surrender.
