Communing Closeness

Tune: Hereford

('O thou who camest from above')

Psalm 4 v.4-8

***********

Stand in awe, sin not, and commune

With your own heart in holy tune

Upon your bed, and be still, know

The Spirit's presence even so

Offer up righteous sacrifice

Of praise, this will be good, suffice

And in the Lord now put your trust

Though human, formed out of mere dust

There be many that say, Who will

Show us any good today still?

Lord, lift the light of your presence

Upon us, that we goodness senes

You have in my heart put gladness

More than in harvest, I confess

For blessings from the earth there be

Yet greater the joys heavenly

I will both lay me down in peace

And sleep, fears and worries release

For you, Lord, make me dwell safely

And through night, day, my Saviour be
