And then,
as I sat
alone
in a dark corner
of my room,
a sudden thought
came to me
of how the monsters
that once
used to haunt my
dreams
and live under my
bed,
and the ones I
thought
would pull me down
if I kept my feet
outside the blanket
for too long,
all of them
seemed
far less scary
than what stood
beyond my door
out there
in the world
for me.

This takes the opposite route of the idea that it is the monsters inside not out that one needs to fear. A thought that growing up is more to fear than remaining a child. Nicely done.
Yes Mr sorren. I have been into this idea that no monster can come close to what some humans do to other humans. The cruelty is unfathomable.
The creative ability of man to inflict pain upon others is boundless

Thank you!
Yes, the monsters outside sure beat the monsters inside any day.
Mind you, social media is the monster now.
There’s a damn effective reversal here, because the childhood monsters under the bed slowly become almost comforting once they’re compared with the real dangers waiting beyond the bedroom door. The final “what stood beyond my door / out there in the world” lands hard precisely because nothing supernatural is needed—the real monster is adulthood, and the loss of that childhood illusion of safety.
Exactly Mr. Thomas. Glad you liked it!
The outside world in your head can be a crazy place, the inside to some can be the same.
The good thing is,99.9 % of what you think is going to happen never does.
The proof is in the pudding.
Got you, and for my money you are right.
Popped in to your home page and read "I am a 19 year old who like many don't really understand the world but pretends to do so" I like this very much, and would advise you to keep asking the right questions...
Ps: I'm Dave, no Mr.
