The jam I gave her yesterday
Is still good jam today,
But not so good alas it seems
For her to want to stay.
Perhaps she's after marmalade
Or butter all alone.
Perhaps she's tired of my toast,
And wants to try a scone.
She's found another table
And has her breakfast there,
Perhaps with finer china
And nicer tableware,
But she will never greet her day
with what makes house a home,
Sitting there across from me;
Our daughter and our son.
Together we go gather
What our garden serves;
Berries for our larder
To make our own preserves.

I loved the metaphor in this one that applied so nicely to several matters in relationships. Brilliant! and a fave
Soren, thanks again for your kind comments. I'll save some jam for you. Cheers
You are most welcome marmalade would be better still.
Jabberwocky, this one hurt more than I expected...all that ordinary breakfast stuff wrapped around someone leaving. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦⬛
Thanks Tristan.
Family relationships, it seems mostly cause pain somewhere, sometime. Longterm association, long term changes. I felt for you in your summary.
PS: I'm voting for the marmalade too...
Thanks Dave
I better plant sone orange trees then, demand for marmalade is suddenly through the roof! Not sure how well I'll do with orange trees in Scotland though!
As they do..it seems..unsatisfied..seek the greener side of fence...from the painting of your poetry
I think you're truly blessed..time..and view..
change what was new...to..boring..everyday
But in the end...a years long friend
Can recognize the true....
Was always the beginning
