First Day of School

Michael A. McGuire

Today is the first day of school.

I wonder who I will meet. I hope
my teacher is nice and assigns me
a comfortable seat.

I wonder if the other kids are as
nervous as I; but more importantly,
we become friends, and that they
are kind.

So easy to make fun of others' faults;
much harder to accept them for who
they are; differences and all.

Can't wait to share all they teach us,
and eat that yummy lunch right after
recess.

When Mom comes to pick me up; I
will tell her what I learned...

...and the many adventures I have had;
like the extra cookie I snuck
during lunchtime, that I placed
in my bag.

Can't wait to go back tomorrow but for
now...I'm happy to be home.

Watch cartoons, play with my brother...
just enjoy my family.

Tonight, I'll take a bubble bath
with lots of foam.

It's great to be a kid!

    What a delightful write from the perspective of a kid. The little joys that make for a good day and the things to look forward too. They are soon to change as one grows to other things. Nicely done
